About FormatWala

Every shop, freelancer, landlord and small office in India needs the same handful of papers again and again: a bill, a quotation, a salary slip, a receipt. Most people end up searching for a “format”, downloading a Word file of unknown quality, and fighting with its tables.

FormatWala replaces that with a form. You fill in the details, watch the document build itself on the same screen, and download a clean PDF or print it. The arithmetic, the GST split, the amount in words and the layout are done for you.

What we promise

  • Free. No sign-up, no watermark, no limit on how many documents you make.
  • Private. Your documents are built inside your own browser. What you type is saved only on your device, so that your business details are there next time. It is never sent to us, which also means we cannot see it, lose it or sell it.
  • English and Hindi. The site and the printed documents work in both. More Indian languages will follow.
  • Blank formats too. If you would rather fill a form by hand, every tool can print an empty copy.
  • Careful with facts. Where a guide mentions a tax rule, we say where it comes from and when we last checked it. We are a formatting tool, not your accountant: for anything that matters, confirm with a professional.

Who runs it

FormatWala is built and run by Jaspal Singh, an independent developer based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, working with AI tools that help write the code and draft the guides. Jaspal decides what is published and reads your email personally. There is no sales team and no call centre: if something is wrong, you are one message away from the person who can fix it.

How it is paid for

The site is supported by advertising. That is what lets the tools stay free. Later we may offer an inexpensive plan for businesses that want extras such as saved customers across devices. The free tools will remain free.

Built on open source

FormatWala runs on open-source software, including Astro, Preact and Tailwind CSS. It is served from our own server, hosted with OVH in France, through Cloudflare’s network, which keeps a copy of the pages close to visitors in India. We are grateful to the people who build and maintain those projects.

Tell us what to build next

If there is a format you need and cannot find here, or you spot a mistake in a document or a guide, please write to us. The formats people ask for are the ones we build first.
